After a lengthy period of research and the feelings I had towards my work in the Liminal show I had come to the conclusion that I didn't want to continue with the making of objects. I felt like I had come to the end of that line of enquiry. After immersing myself in the research and not making any work for 3 months I decided to give up my studio at Islington Mill Salford to pursue a new direction of making videos.
The final research for the MA was based on the act of making in a post minimal practice, which combined the idea of Richard Sennett's idea of the craftsman along with Suzi Gablik's ideas on cognitive development and it ended up about a discussion on criticality. I realised that I had been trying to emulate the some of the Modernists' ideological grand narratives without being critical. The reductionist method of producing art which I followed had reached a conclusion; that there was no future in pursuing object making and sculptural concerns. I had wanted for a while to make videos and had some initial ideas which provided the motivation to be able to move away from objects and into making videos.
