I had experimented a great deal with slide projectors and coloured light and began to realise that using this medium had issues! There were the problems with electricity use, heat, disintegrating gels and the reliability of the projectors. I was using slide projectors as a reference to defunct technology and to James Turrell and didn't feel comfortable with moving onto the more reliable theatre lights that they had used at Urbis. But when I started my MA the first thing I did was book out a dark room and 3 slide projectors. By doing this I had realised another thing that the light travelling through darker colours had to be much stronger (i.e. a higher wattage bulb) to get the same luminosity as the other colours. Without this, the 'mixing' of the colours was impossible. We were also bombarded with critical texts on the MA which began to have a profound effect on me. Out went the ideology of kick starting personal change by the performativity of aesthetics and in came a more singular debate of my own personal development as to what was happening in my practice and where did it fit in within contemporary art?
